WHALE FALL SWATCH

Conceptualised around the word environment I have decided to look at whale fall, the process in which a whale decomposes in deep sea. When the whale has died and sinks the carcass works as a biodiversity generator enabling organisms to feed and mingle onto the carcass. This also subsequently allows fish to sustain their population where such sea organisms consume methane. I have examined the disruptive nature plastic has had on whale fall. Where whales’ bodies have become a source of landfill for these plastics, within 2017 a sperm whale was found washed ashore with 6 kilograms of plastic Within its digestive system. Subsequently contaminating the whale fall process with toxic plastic. This also means that the Plastic would deteriorate at a much slower rate than the carcass of the whale. Where the natural process of whale fall has been disrupted by unnatural materials.
